The Inauguration of President Barack Obama

The following entries capture the inauguration of our 44th president, Barack Obama. I awoke at 4am to drive down to Largo, Maryland, where I boarded a commuter train to Washington D.C. where I was met by millions of other excited citizens. As we walked to the National Mall the crowd grew larger and larger and a sense of comradery soon followed on this very very very cold day. A sense of hope was in the air and we could all feel it.
These photos are documenting my day from the train ride in to the inauguration; then walking through Georgetown after an amazing dinner at an Ethiopian restaurant called Zed's (I highly recommend checking it out!!!); then back to the train station for the ride back to Jersey.

The walk to the National Mall

Arriving at the National Mall and crammed into the crowd

The first full view of the capital when we arrived at the National Mall.
The gates we had to go through and get our bags checked before we could enter the mall.
My "view".

Snipers were on every building surrounding the mall.

Obama-rama!

As we were walking past all of these store fronts celebrating the inauguration and Obama, I wondered if the town was decked out in the same way when Bush was being inaugurated. I suppose anything is possible but somehow I doubt it.

Less than 2 weeks to go...

President George W. Bush, while accompanied by wife Laura, made his last speech on policy on Thursday January 8 at General Philip Kearny School in Northern Liberties. Mr. Bush spoke on the benefits of the No Child Left Behind Law.
