Spts Gina Sciarrone



Gina Sciarrone, a third baseman and outfielder for the undefeated Catholic League championship Saint Hubert softball team. Now that Huberts is over, she is playing for the Philadelphia Spirit Gold showcase team, a tournament squad that travels the country to play highly competitive ball. Gina is a power hitter and ranked 15th in her class.

Multicultural Day at Loesche Elementary

Gianna Contrabasso, a kindergarten student and Alexandra Nesnova, Russian Heritage Teacher sing along to "We are the World" during the closing performance of the Multicultural day celebration at Loesche Elementary School last Tuesday. Nesnova has been directing the Multicultural Shows for the past 3 years. She had previously presented shows on Russian Heritage, but one day was approached by two Indian girls who showed her a traditional folk dance. Nesnova then decided to showcase children from more than 50 different countries.

Memorial Plaque Dedication for a Fireman





Alfred Balkie III and his mother Johanna, widow of the late Alfred Balkie, a firefighter who was killed in the line of duty in 1965 stand over the memorial plaque during a ceremony last Wednesday in Feltonville. Hundreds of Philadelphia Police and Firefighters were in attendence.

Spts Mike Harrington

Father Judge Junior Mike Harrington is a three sport varsity athlete. He played on the soccer team that won the Catholic League Championship in the fall, the indoor track team that won the championship in the winter, and most recently, the outdoor track team that won the championship last week.

Spts Dr. Bartolozzi, sports med

Dr. Arthur Bartolozzi, chief of sports medicine and 3B Orthopaedics at Pennsylvania Hospital has served as the team physician for the Eagles and Flyers.
Dr. Arthur Bartolozzi assists patient Stacy Wylie, 21, of Levittown. Wylie tore her left ACL in '06 and recently tore her right ACL in March. Wylie is a soccer player at Millersville College.

(from left) Stacy, 21, Matthew, 19, and Kaitlin, 17, of Levittown, are regular patients of Dr. Bartolozzi. Stacy most recently tore her right ACL in March, but has torn her left ACL in 2006, Matthew tore his ACL in Sept. 2007 and had surgery in January, and Kaitlin tore her ACL in September 2007 and has surgery in November. The Wylie's are active athletes, all three siblings play soccer and Kaitlin and Stacy also play volleyball. In this photo, the siblings point out their various surgical scars and joke that they should have a hospital wing named after them due to their frequent visits.

Rhawnhurst NORC




Diane Mazzara(right) and her friend Julie Crussard stand outside Mazzara's Rhawnhurst home. Mazzara recently started using the services of Rhawnhurst NORC (Naturally Occurring Retirement Community). The nonprofit organization helps seniors who want to remain living independently in their homes but need help with household chores such as weeding the yard, changing lightbulbs, cleaning the house, etc. In the third photo, Alan McHale pulls out weeds in Diane Mazzara's front lawn.

Zach Attacks Cancer




Zach Herr is holding a golf tournament/fundraiser to generate money for Fox Chase Cancer Center, where his mom, Cyndie, is being treated for colon cancer. His goal is to raise $50,000, and most of the proceeds will go toward the fight against cancer. He has already sold around 3,000 awareness bracelets at $1 apiece. His organization is called the Zach Attacks Cancer Foundation.
